[ARCHIVED] Municipal Court Remains Closed to Public Through June 16

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-May 27, 2020-The Steamboat Springs Municipal Court extended its court order through June 16 to handle all court cases during this period by phone and email. In addition, anyone scheduled for court on June 3 MUST contact the court on or before their appearance date.

Office hours for the Court Clerk are Monday through Thursday, 8am to 5pm and closed on Friday. While the office is closed to the public and in person visits, the court clerk’s office is available via email and phone during scheduled hours and the court prosecutor will be scheduled as required.

In addition, the Municipal Court Judge originally authorized the following in his March 24 order and further extended the order on May 21 to run through June 16 while the court remains closed:

  • Speedy trial will be tolled on all cases in which a plea of “not guilty” has already been entered, effectively immediately and continuing until the Court is reopened to the public.
  • Restitution will be reserved in all cases for 91 days. The 91 day period will start upon disposition/resolution of the case.
  • The Court will take judicial notice of registry of action, Full Court entries, notes in the Court file and/or the record to establish identification of the defendant as the individual who received communications from the Court regarding any action taken on the case.
  • This order authorizes the Court Clerks to resolve traffic and parking tickets consistent with the parameters provided by the City Attorney’s Office.
