STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-March 26, 2020-The Steamboat Springs Municipal Court will be handling all court cases set for April 1 and April 15 by phone and email. In addition, anyone scheduled for court in April MUST contact the court on or before their appearance date.
“As you can imagine, we’re adapting to new ways to conduct court business due to the coronavirus,” said City Attorney Dan Foote. “In the short term, court cases will be handled by phone and email through May 1, 2020.”
Office hours for the Court Clerk remain Monday through Thursday, 8am to 5pm; however, the office remains closed to the public and in person visits. The court clerk’s office is available via email and phone during scheduled hours and the court prosecutor will be scheduled as required.
In addition, the Municipal Court Judge authorized the following in his March 24 order while the court is closed to the public:
- Speedy trial will be tolled on all cases in which a plea of “not guilty” has already been entered, effectively immediately and continuing until the Court is reopened to the public.
- Restitution will be reserved in all cases for 91 days. The 91 day period will start upon disposition/resolution of the case.
- The Court will take judicial notice of registry of action, Full Court entries, notes in the Court file and/or the record to establish identification of the defendant as the individual who received communications from the Court regarding any action taken on the case.
- This order authorizes the Court Clerks to resolve traffic and parking tickets consistent with the parameters provided by the City Attorney’s Office.
