The City of Steamboat has published the preliminary November 2019 Sales, Use, and Accommodation Tax Report. (See the Full Report) City of Steamboat Springs’ November 2019 sales tax collections are 2.18% more compared to the November 2018 collections or an increase of $34,861. For the past 5 years, November collections represent about 6% of annual collections. Year to date sales tax collection is 7.84% more than year to date through November 2018.

When comparing this November to the same month last year, the greatest categorical increases were in marijuana at 13.49%, and lodging & amenities at 7.91%. Notable increases in collections by area were 6.07% for the regional area and 3.69% for downtown.

Accommodation Tax is primarily dedicated to local trail projects since the Yampa Street improvements portion of referendum 2A was completed last year. A small amount each year is dedicated towards the marketing of these projects and capital improvements at Haymaker. November collections reflect an increase of 16.41% compared to the same period last year. Year to date accommodations tax is up 14.81% compared to the same period last year.

Building Use Tax is used to fund capital projects for the City of Steamboat Springs.  This tax fluctuates depending on building permits issued, use tax audits completed, and the size and number of developments in the City. November net use tax collections total $80,845. Year to date net use tax collections total $2,399,964 which is 46% higher compared to the same period last year.
