[ARCHIVED] Building Officials Host Contracting & Development Forum

Contractor Forum NewsFlash

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-December 5, 2019-Having a plan is the start to every successful construction project and the city and county will review and outline updates to the process during the annual forum for the contracting and development community on Thursday, December 12, which will help ensure a productive, safe and efficient season ahead.

“The forum is a fantastic opportunity for anyone performing professional development work to become familiar with the process and meet staff from a variety of departments,” commented City Engineer Ben Beall. “By spending a little extra time now, we hope to set companies up to maximize the short construction season experienced in the mountains.”

Updates will be provided on the new structure for the Development Review Team (formerly TAC), construction stormwater permitting, contractor licensing and the timeline for a planned switch to a new online application portal.

In addition, an overview will cover revisions in codes and regulations including the Community Development Code, Engineering Standards, Floodplain Regulations and Army Corps of Engineers Wetland Compliance. The group will look back at the past year and the lessons learned from asphalt compaction and testing, traffic control, and stormwater erosion control to name a few topics that will be covered.

The Routt County Building Department is interested in arming contractors with as much information as possible in advance of Building Code Changes and Contractor Licensing Requirements. A brief update will be provided on Code Changes from the 2015 to 2018 Codes, and Contractor Licensing Requirements, both are on the horizon for 2020-2021. In addition, attendees will understand the implications of the new Land Management Software project currently underway by both the City and County.

City staff including representatives from Public Works and Planning & Community Development along with officials from the Routt County Regional Building Department will be in attendance. The event will take place at the Bud Werner Memorial Library from 9am to 11:30am
