[ARCHIVED] Property/Evidence Department Tags New Procedures & Hours

Property Evidence NewsFlash

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-December 4, 2019-Keeping track of your car keys can be difficult at times for many, so when you track thousands of pieces of property and evidence, it takes stringent guidelines and procedures. To better serve the community, the Steamboat Springs Police Department’s property/evidence room will be modifying its procedure for the release of property and evidence.

“As you can imagine, evidence is coming into the facility at all hours,” commented Police Commander Jerry Stabile. “The new system ensures an evidence technician is available to the public during designated time frames, which we believe will better accommodate releasing property to citizens.”

December signals the start of new procedures which will see the release of all property and evidence by appointment only on specific days. The designated days for release will be Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. Individuals are encouraged to call 970.879.4344 or 970.879.1144 to make an appointment for the release of property/evidence.

After an appointment has been secured, please arrive at the main glass entrance of the Combined Law Enforcement Facility, 2027 Shield Drive. Inform the Steamboat Springs Police Front Desk that you have an appointment with the Evidence Technician, and they’ll do the rest.

Current found property with the SSPD is listed at steamboatsprings.net/lostproperty and updated every two weeks. In a typically year, the SSPD transfers around 7,500 pieces of physical evidence, including more than 1,200 items collected as found property, returning approximately 60% to the owner.
