The City of Steamboat has published the preliminary October 2019 Sales, Use, and Accommodation Tax Report. City of Steamboat Springs’ October 2019 sales tax collections are 11.19% more compared to the October 2018 collections or an increase of $176,330. For the past 5 years, October collections represent about 6% of annual collections. Year to date sales tax collection is 8.16% more than year to date through October 2018.
When comparing this October to the same month last year, the greatest categorical increases were in lodging & amenities at 36.09%, and construction & home improvement at 16.63. Notable increases in collections by area were 33.75% for the Regional area and 9.67% for Highway 40 Corridor.
Accommodation Tax is primarily dedicated to local trail projects since the Yampa Street improvements portion of referendum 2A was completed last year. A small amount each year is dedicated towards the marketing of these projects and capital improvements at Haymaker. October collections reflect an increase of 37.31% compared to the same period last year. Year to date accommodations tax is up 14.71% compared to the same period last year.
Building Use Tax is used to fund capital projects for the City of Steamboat Springs. This tax fluctuates depending on building permits issued, use tax audits completed, and the size and number of developments in the City. October net use tax collections total $220,947. Year to date net use tax collections total $2,319,119.
