STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-October 28, 2019–On Friday, October 25, the Steamboat Springs Police Department located and arrested an individual wanted for ‘substantial battery – hate crime’.
“Individuals often think they can come to Steamboat Springs to hide from their problems,” commented Detective Sergeant Jeff Wilson with the Steamboat Springs Police. “Our mission is to keep our community as safe as possible; and when we get word of offenders in our area with warrants, we work diligently to find and apprehend them.”
Leading up to Friday’s arrest, a federal law enforcement agency contacted Detective Sergeant Jeff Wilson with information that Fernando Muriel Garcia-Rivera, 30 years old and last known to reside in Wisconsin, may be in the Steamboat Springs area. Garcia-Rivera was wanted in conjunction for an outstanding, out-of-state warrant.
A day later, a coordinated effort saw members of the SSPD and personnel from Routt County Sheriff’s Office locate Garcia-Rivera working at a local construction site. Garcia-Rivera was arrested without incident and transported to the Routt County Jail to await extradition to Wisconsin.
“Thanks to the cooperation of local businesses, community members, and local law enforcement agencies the quick apprehension of a violent fugitive was successful,” continued Wilson.
Anyone with additional questions or concerns, or with information on any other crime is encouraged to contact the Steamboat Springs Police Department at 970.879.1144.
