STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-September 23, 2019-The 2019 River Road Interceptor Project is in full swing and installation continues this week through Howelsen Parkway and the 5th Street intersection.
As the River Road Interceptor continues moving along Howelsen Parkway, traffic detours and road closures along Howelsen Parkway will shift beginning Monday, September 23. As the interceptor installation moves across 5th Street, intermittent road closures are expected at the intersection on Monday and Tuesday.
Extensive delays are expected on Wednesday, September 25, beginning late morning for a few hours as the pipeline is laid across the intersection. During this closure, motorists are asked to limit their trips into and out of the Howelsen Hill area.
Parking and drop off for the SSWSC is suggested in the parking lot near 911 Yampa Street, where pedestrians can access the Howelsen Hill facilities via the core trail. Once the intersection has been backfilled, traffic will once again be routed through the Rodeo Grounds throughout the coming weeks.
Access to the Howelsen Ice Arena will be through the Rodeo Grounds. Patrons wishing to visit the Parks and Recreation building located at 245 Howelsen Parkway, should park at the ice arena and follow the detour signs around the south side of the building. The school bus route along River Road to 5th Street will be maintained throughout road closures with limited delays.
A VMS sign will be posted at the intersection of River Road and Mount Werner Road indicating that the road is closed to thru traffic until November 1. Signs will also be posted at Yampa Street and 5th Street to warn traffic of the road closure.
The $1.68M interceptor project will include the installation of a larger sanitary sewer main to replace an aged and undersized system, a sidewalk to connect 5th Street to Agate Street, two separate fiber optic conduit systems and a stormwater system.
