[ARCHIVED] Council Hosts Final Farmers Market Booth of Season

While the Farmers Market runs well into September, the season for the City Council booth is coming to an end this weekend when council hosts its final Farmers Market listening session of the summer.

“This is will be my final year hosting the booth as my council term comes to an end in November,” said Councilor Scott Ford. “While together we have accomplished much that I’m proud of, I cherish the time in the booth talking face to face with citizens about their passions and future direction for the city we all love.”

CC BoothaOn Saturday, August, 31, join available council members from 9am to 11am to ask a question, say hello or find out what’s going on across the city straight from your elected officials.  The council booth, #48, is located on Yampa Street, closer to 6th Street.  City Manager Gary Suiter stops into the booth this week as the special guest on the final weekend.

“The council booth has evolved into a popular way for residents to interact with council members in a relaxed atmosphere,” said City Manager Gary Suiter. “I’ve heard from a variety of other municipalities what a great way this is to reach out to residents and something they wished was done in their community.”

Spearheaded by Councilor Ford, the Steamboat Springs City Council began hosting a booth at the Farmers Market four years ago as a way to engage with the community. During the season, special guests, like the City Manager, have joined council as an added way for the community to connect and learn about their city.

This summer, guests have included Fire Chief Mel Stewart, Airport Manager Stacie Fain, Police Chief Cory Christensen, Parks & Recreation Director Angela Cosby, Animal Control Officer Krista Amatuzio and Routt County Commissioner Beth Melton.

The City Council Farmers Market Booth is just one way councilors are working to engage with the community. It joins other outreach programs like Council Columns in the Steamboat Pilot & Today and Valley Voice and monthly programs such as Coffee with Council and the City Limits Radio Show on Steamboat Radio.
