The Yampa River Botanic Park comes alive at night when its signature evening function, Glow in the Park, casts a warm light over Peter’s Pond on Sunday, August 18, 2019.
“This is the park’s only evening function and one that has grown into a magical and popular event in just a few short years,” said Sonia Franzel, president of the Yampa River Botanic Park. “The meaning is different for each person, but more importantly Glow in the Park allows us, both individually and collectively, to come together to celebrate, honor, remember and reflect on what is most important to us.”
Back for a second year, Glow in the Park sees floating lanterns fill Peter’s Pond and drift magically across the water while stars fill the night sky above. Watch your floating candle lantern mix with other lanterns and grow into an illuminating and peaceful period of reflection. In many cultures, lanterns represent good luck, hope, honor and the promise of good fortune.
Lanterns are available at the event for a recommended donation of $20 for one, $30 for two, $40 for three and $50 for five. Then bring your wish, a personal message, honor a loved one or inspirational picture to life on the lantern canvas before setting it afloat. Bring your own color pens and pencils to decorate or use the workshop table close to where lanterns are available.
Beautiful local artwork complements the event with all pieces available for purchase by donation. In addition, music and light refreshments will be provided. The event provides plenty of time for photos, mingling and quiet reflection as you stroll this six-acre gem set along the Yampa River. All event proceeds benefit the Yampa River Botanic Park.
The FREE event runs from 7pm to 9pm with the floating lantern launch anticipated around 8pm. Parking is available in Emerald Park. Plan on biking, use the Yampa River Core Trail or come in from Emerald Park, just remember to bring your bike lights and head lamps.
