The athletes in the Olympic portion of the Steamboat Triathlon will pedal their way across sections of River Road into the Howelsen Ice Complex during the upcoming Steamboat Triathlon competition on Sunday, August 11. As a result, River Road and a portion of Howelsen Parkway, will be CLOSED from Mt. Werner Road to 5th Street to all but local traffic.
Steamboat Springs Police Community Service Officers (CSO) will be stationed at 5th Street to assist with traffic control during this time. Routt County Sheriff Deputies will be working with race organizers outside city limits and will be stationed at the intersection of River Road and Mt. Werner Road. It is recommended that motorists and recreational cyclists avoid the course route on Sunday morning if possible.
In conjunction with local law enforcement agencies, organizers have pledged volunteers to help mitigate impacts to residents in the Brooklyn Neighborhood. Event staff welcomes feedback from local residents impacted by the street closure. Residents can reach out to Lance Panigutti via email.
The Olympic course leaves Catamount Lake on CO18, before turning left onto Hwy 131, followed by a right on CO14 E. Racers head north on CO 14 E, transitioning onto River Road and Howelsen Parkway before turning around at the Howelsen Ice Complex and retracing their route. At the intersection of CO 14 E and Hwy 131, racers take a right turn onto Hwy 131 and head south until they reach the second turn around. From here, it’s back along Hwy 131 to CO 18 and Catamount Lake.
Howelsen Hill is also hosting the second day of the Steamboat Stinger, the marathon and half marathon segments, on Sunday. Competitors and spectators will be able to access Howelsen Hill via 5th Street and west Howelsen Parkway; however, please use caution when traveling through this area until all events have concluded.
