The City of Steamboat has published the final June 2019 Sales, Use, and Accommodation Tax Report. (See the Full Report.) The June 2019 Mountain Communities Report is also available. (See the Full Report.)
City of Steamboat Springs’ June 2019 sales tax collections are 7.64% more compared to the June 2018 collections or an increase of $159,491. For the past 5 years, June collections represent about 8% of annual collections. Year to date sales tax collection is 7.63% more than year to date through June 2018.
When comparing this June to the same month last year, the greatest categorical increases were in construction & home improvement at 45.29%, miscellaneous retail at 8.88%, and marijuana at 6.44%. The increase in the first category is largely due to several out of town companies in the business of selling hospitality furniture, fixtures and equipment. Notable increases in collections by area was 51.01% for the Regional area; again as a result of the aforementioned retailers that contributed to the uptick in the construction & home improvement category.
Accommodation Tax is primarily dedicated to local trail projects since the Yampa Street improvements portion of referendum 2A was completed last year. A small amount each year is dedicated towards the marketing of these projects and capital improvements at Haymaker. June collections were flat compared to the same period last year. Year to date accommodations tax is up 15.05% compared to the same period last year.
Building Use Tax is used to fund capital projects for the City of Steamboat Springs. This tax fluctuates depending on building permits issued, use tax audits completed, and the size and number of developments in the City. June net use tax collections total $419,846.
