A little more than a month after taking the keys to the new Combined Law Enforcement Facility (CLEF), the City of Steamboat Springs and Routt County, along with the Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA), will officially open the facility with a special community celebration on Friday, July 19, 2019.
“The Combined Law Enforcement Facility is something the community should take great pride in,” said Kathi Meyer, Steamboat Springs City Council President Pro-Tem. “On behalf of the city and county, I invite everyone to join us for a special inside look at the facility and meet the men and women who serve our city, county and community.”
A grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for Friday from 10-11am with City Councilors, County Commissioners, DOLA executive director, Rick Garcia, members of the Steamboat Springs Police, Routt County Sheriff and Routt County Communications along with the public.
Immediately following the opening ceremony, the community will be able to take part in guided tours from 11am to 3pm of the secure facility, including a glimpse into the just opened state-of-the-art E911 Emergency Communications Center. Tours will depart from the lobby/community room every half hour and last about 25 minutes.
After the tours, enjoy the spacious community room, which is open to local groups to hold meetings and events. Kids can check out police and ACO’s vehicles, as well as collect junior officer and animal control paw stickers. In addition, the Office of Emergency Management will share vital information about the emergency alert notification system and the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).
“Collaboration was key along the entire project from start to finish,” said Tim Corrigan, Routt County Commissioner. “This facility wouldn’t have moved forward as efficiently without everyone’s support and cooperation.”
The 26,908-square-foot Combined Law Enforcement Facility (CLEF), a joint project between the City of Steamboat Springs and Routt County, serves as the headquarters for the Steamboat Springs Police Department, Routt County Sheriff’s Office and the Routt County Communications Center.
On top of the joint funding by the two government agencies, a $1 million state grant was awarded to the $19.3 million project from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs.
