The City of Steamboat has published the final February 2013 Sales, Use, and Accommodation Tax Report. (See the Full Report.)

The City of Steamboat has published the final February 2013 Sales, Use, and Accommodation Tax Report. City of Steamboat Springs’ February sales taxes are 7.65% more than the February 2012 collections, a difference of $135,375. The City budgeted for a decrease in sales tax for 2013, placing the actual taxes collected 12% over budget for this month and 8% over budget year-to-date.

Increases were seen across all categories of sales. The largest increase was a 17.84% increase in Lodging & Amenities. The Mountain area saw the largest increase with 11.93% over February 2012, and the Regional area showed the only decrease of 3.01%.

Accommodation Tax, which is currently used to fund Haymaker debt payments, saw an increase of 17.87% compared to the same time period in 2012, bringing the year-to-Date to 10.01% increase over 2012.

The Local Marketing District Air Service Sales Tax, with a rate of .25%, saw an increase of 24.98% over February 2012, bringing year-to-date to 30.17% over 2012. This tax began January 1, 2012 and is held separately from the City of Steamboat Springs sales tax.

Building Use Tax is used to fund capital projects for the City of Steamboat Springs. This tax fluctuates depending on building permits issued, use tax audits completed, and the size and number of developments in the City. February 2013 showed a slight decrease of $711 under February 2012. According to Yampa Valley Data Partners, there are increasing signs of encouragement in the construction industry.
