Whoever said nothing in life is free, didn’t experience Howelsen Hill’s Ski Free Sunday program, offering free skiing every Sunday of the season. Not only does your pocket book enjoy Ski Free Sunday, but so will your taste buds as non-profit organization host bake sales featuring tasty treats, baked goods and hot chocolate during the afternoon each Sunday starting in mid-December.
“Howelsen Hill is the community’s gathering place,” said Winnie DelliQuadri, Assistant to the City Manager. “What better way for local organizations to share their message and raise some money to help their organization and community.”
In conjunction with Ski Free Sunday, a non-profit organization will be featured during a bake sale outside historic Howelsen Hill Lodge each Sunday from December 16 through March 10. The bake sale runs from 2pm to 4pm each Sunday and provides an ideal occasion for organizations to share their mission, generated interest in programs and accept donations.
Non-profit organizations looking to host a bake sale, should email Winnie DelliQuadri with two potential date options they would be interested in. The city will randomly draw organizations for the 13 Sunday slots. With the hot chocolate provided by Drunken Onion, organizations are required to provide the baked goods and staff the tent during the bake sale.
The highly popular Ski Free Sunday program, which started two weeks early this season, provides free skiing on Sundays throughout the season. Ski Free Sunday runs from 10am to 4pm every Sunday through Closing Day, March 10. Over the winter, specific Sundays could see limited or closed terrain due to special events or competitions.
Howelsen Hill has shared the sport of skiing with generations for more than a century. Outside of Ski Free Sundays, the ski area features some of the most affordable lift tickets programs for individuals and families looking for alpine, snowboarding, snowshoe, fat bike or Nordic access in Colorado.
Owned and operated by the City of Steamboat Springs, Howelsen Hill is home to the acclaimed Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club and is North America’s oldest operating ski area. The ski area, the jewel in the city park system, features affordable skiing and snowboarding across terrain catered toward all abilities as well as enjoys 13 miles of Nordic, snowshoe and snow bike trails.
