[ARCHIVED] Master Plan Public Workshop Scheduled for March 21

The next opportunity for public input for the Comprehensive Parks, Recreation, Open Space, Trails and River (PROSTR) Master Plan will take place on Wednesday, March 21, 2018, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at Olympian Hall.

“Looking at the next 10 years, hard decisions will have to be made to continue to provide and enhance our park system.” said John Overstreet, parks and recreation director for the City of Steamboat Springs. “We have developed alternatives based on comprehensive public input but we need the community to weigh in on their priorities.”

The workshop will include a review of summary of community input to date, vision and goals for the system, and various funding alternatives. Participants will be asked to provide input on alternatives and proposed recommendations for improving and enhancing the parks and recreation system.  Stop by any time, no formal presentation will occur.

In addition to the public workshop, input is being gathered through a statistically valid community-wide survey. Selected households within the city will be receiving the survey in the mail. Input from both the workshop and the community-wide survey will be analyzed to present draft recommendations in April.

Throughout the Master Planning, the team will affirm goals and objectives, analyze trends and demographics, evaluate supply and demand, and provide recommendations and priorities for improvements throughout the parks, recreation, open space, trails and river system.

The Master Plan provides a 10-year vision for the city’s park and recreation facilities and amenities, as well as an action plan for implementing this vision. The City of Steamboat Springs is working with Logan Simpson, an award-winning landscape architecture & environmental planning firm on the project.
