STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-January 9, 2024-Around 4pm this afternoon, Tuesday, January 8, 2024, a Steamboat Springs Transit (SST) regional coach was involved in a vehicle fire on US Highway 40 approximately one mile east of the Town of Hayden.

A fire started in the rear wheel area of the coach as it was traveling west on US40. The driver safely pulled over to the side of the road. This regional route departed Steamboat Springs around 2:30pm earlier this afternoon.

All 13 passengers and the operator were able to exit the bus. Another SST bus was dispatched to the scene to provide shelter for the regional passengers. However, everyone on the regional coach found alternative rides to their destinations.

SST is working to keep the regional service, which travels between Steamboat Springs and Craig three time a day, on its regular schedule despite one coach being in operatable.
