STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-December 6, 2023-The City of Steamboat Springs has added a new chapter to the municipalities’ engineering standards specific to stormwater management during construction. The standards become effective January 1, 2024.
The dedicated stormwater management chapter reflects current stormwater program requirements in addition to new requirements that align with current state permits and industry standards. New requirements include: a final stabilization Stormwater Management Plan (SWMP) site plan and seven specific control measures.
Chapter 8 dives into detail on the construction stormwater program and municipal code regulations, along with requirements for the city’s Construction Stormwater Permit, SWMPs, inspections, and control measure specifications and requirements. This document includes all city stormwater and construction site management documents in one location.
All construction sites in the city are required to implement erosion and sediment control measures. The intent of the stormwater program is to reduce or prevent the discharge of pollutants in runoff from construction sites to the city’s drainage system, creeks, and the Yampa River
The type of permit and plan requirements for a site are dependent on the size of the projects area of disturbance. A Construction Stormwater Permit, is required prior to beginning construction for any project exceeding one acre in land disturbance or is less than one acre but is part of a larger common plan of development that would disturb one acre or more.
Interested parties can read the entire new Stormwater Management Chapter here. Individuals can report non-emergency spills or illicit discharge violations via email or at 970.871.7028. All emergency spills should be immediately reported to Routt County Dispatch at 9-1-1.
