STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-September 21, 2023-Municipal land management expert, Robert Burdine, has been named as the new Parks & Recreation Deputy Director – Land Management and will be joining the city starting Monday, September 25, 2023.
“This new Deputy Director position is the first step in aligning the department to better serve our community, in this case specifically addressing land development initiatives, assets and facilities,” said Parks & Recreation Director Angela Cosby. “Rob has a wealth of experience and will be a wonderful addition to a very talented and dedicated team.”
In his new role, Burdine will oversee all elements that pertain to land management for Parks & Recreation including 23 full-time and 59 seasonal employees. This position will be responsible for operations and management for Parks, Trails, Open Space, the Yampa River, Yampa River Botanic Park, Mineral Springs, and Water Irrigation & Conservation. In addition, he will be the primary liaison for the Routt Recreation Round Table, Stream Team, Botanic Park Board and Mineral Springs Committee.

Prior to joining the city, Burdine garnered 24 years of experience in land management capacities across several Colorado municipalities including the City of Lafayette, Arapahoe County, and City of Westminster. In these leadership roles, he executed multi-million-dollar budgets, managed departmental plans, land acquisition, and wildlife strategies as well as served as a vital connection to key stakeholder groups.
Burdine earned a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from Bowling Green State University. He is certified arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture and received certification from the Colorado Department of Agriculture.
Parks & Recreation is streamlining the department into four key management areas – administration, recreation, land management, and development - to efficiently allocate resources, expertise, and specialties. The deputy director selection process included a preliminary interview, supplemental questions, panel interview, practical experience exercise, site tours, and a staff and community meet and greet. The Deputy Director will report to the Parks & Recreation Director.
