STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-September 1, 2023-The Steamboat Springs Police Department (SSPD) will be hosting two swearing in and pinning ceremonies next week to officially honor two new police officers, Supervisor Amatuzio promotion and the appointment of Mark Beckett to Police Chief.
The pinning ceremony is a long-standing law enforcement tradition which awards the police badge on an individual either upon graduation or promotion. The celebratory events will take place over two consecutive days at the Combined Law Enforcement Facility (2027 Shield Drive) and the following day in City Hall in Centennial (124 10th Street).
Swearing In & Pinning – Wednesday, Sept 6, 6:30pm

Friends, family, and the community is invited to the Wednesday evening swearing in and pinning ceremony for Police Officers Lane Lee and Derek Davis, who recently graduated from the Colorado Law Enforcement Training Academy. The Colorado POST accredited three-month program provides the highest quality training for those who want to be of service to their communities as police officers. In addition, Community Services Supervisor Krista Amatuzio will be recognized for her recent promotion and new responsibilities overseeing parking and code enforcement, animal control, and community services.
Chief of Police Ceremony – Thursday, Sept 7, 11am
City Hall - Centennial
New Police Chief Mark Beckett will official be appointed to the top position for the department. During the event, Chief Beckett will be administered the Oath of Office and have his new chief badge pinned. Before being named Chief, Beckett held the positions of Interim Chief for six months and as Commander – Operations since August 2022. Prior to joining SSPD, he served as a sworn member of the City of Mesa Police Department (AZ) for 21 years.
The SSPD is comprised of 29 sworn officers and 15 professional civilian members, who are dedicated to keeping the community safe, providing quality police service, and working with citizens and businesses.
