STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-December 6, 2022-The Steamboat Springs Police Department (SSPD) will be hosting a pinning ceremony on Monday, December 12, to officially honor three new police officers to the department and the promotion of Sarah Larson to supervisor.
“This is the second recruit group to graduate from the academy within the past six months and we’re eagerly looking forward to pinning new badges on these individuals,” commented Chief Sherry Burlingame. “These milestones – pinning and promotions - are significant and it is important we celebrate and share with the department and our community.”
The cadet group will officially be pinned with the Steamboat Springs Police Department badge and long-time SSPD employee Sarah Larson will be recognized for her promotion to Records Supervisor.
The pinning ceremony is a long-standing law enforcement tradition which awards the police badge to an individual either upon graduation or promotion. The celebratory event will take place starting at 1pm in City Council Chambers in Centennial Hall at 124 10th Street.
Martin Bartuska, Mikey Buccino, and Benji Williams are graduating from the Colorado Law Enforcement Training Academy through the Colorado Mountain College in Glenwood Springs. The Colorado POST accredited three-month program provides quality training for those who want to serve their communities as police officers. Once the three receive their badges, they will enter the SSPD 16-week field training program under the guidance of a veteran officer.
In her 26th year with the city, Sarah Larson has been promoted to Records Supervisor and will oversee four records technicians and the records process. The department receives a significant volume of criminal justice information and is responsible for the entry, review, filing, retention, release, distribution, and destruction of these records. Larson started with Parks & Recreation in 1996 before moving to the SSPD in 2012.
The Steamboat Springs Police Department is comprised of twenty-nine sworn police officers and fifteen support personnel, who provide around the clock public safety services to the City of Steamboat Springs. The department is currently short six sworn positions and five civilians. Last year, the department responded to more than 13,000 calls for service across patrol services, investigations, evidence, animal control, community service and records.
