[ARCHIVED] January Ski Free At Howelsen Hill Draws More Than 550

Ski Free at Howelsen Hill on Sunday, January 15th, the second of nine free days this winter, saw 566 individuals experience Colorado’s historic ski area in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. 

Howelsen Hill Ski Area was open for FREE skiing and riding from 10am to 4pm. Coaches from the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club (SSWSC) offered FREE never-ever lessons during two sessions running from 10-11:30am and 1-2:30pm. The SSWSC also hosted a ski jumping clinic from 1-3pm that day.

The majority of participants came from the City of Steamboat Springs (37.5%), followed by the Front Range (25.1%), Steamboat area outside of the city limits (11%) and out of the state (10.1%).  

In addition, six coaches from the SSWSC provided 55 never-ever lessons on the free day, sharing their love for the sport and this historic ski area.

When combined, the two free days this season have seen 1,056 individuals delight in the opportunity to ski, ride, glide or snowshoe around the 100-year-old ski area. The remaining Ski Free Days at Howelsen Hill are currently scheduled for February 8-12 (with a 104th Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival button), February 26 (Bud Werner Library sponsored Hotdogger Day) and March 12 (Demo Day).

Owned and operated by the City of Steamboat Springs, Howelsen Hill is Colorado's oldest continuously operated ski area and home to the largest and most complete natural ski jumping complex in North America. The ski area offers affordable skiing and snowboarding, with terrain catered toward all abilities and ages as well as 13 miles of Nordic, snowshoe and snow bike trails. 

Ski Free is a partnership between the City of Steamboat Springs, Big Country KBCR 96.9 FM and the SteamboatRadio.com family of radio stations and the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club.
