[ARCHIVED] Public Improvements And Permanent Easement Secured In Iron Horse Agreement

The City of Steamboat Springs finalized an agreement with SwedProperty, LLC, the owner of the Iron Horse Inn, resulting in the release of $400,000 in escrow funds for public improvements.

“This agreement results in numerous public enhancements but more importantly secures a permanent easement along the Iron Horse property to the Core Trail and Yampa River,” noted City Manager Gary Suiter. “We are delighted with the significant work force housing benefit the Iron Horse provides to the Steamboat Springs community and we are happy to wrap up this portion of the contract agreement with SwedProperty.”

Under terms of the agreement, the escrow funds will go towards a recreational and riparian easement along the Yampa River Core Trail, various landscaping improvements around the property and construction of public river access. The escrow funds will be distributed across the three key areas with $267,000 dedicated toward the easement, $83,000 for landscaping improvements and the remaining $50,000 for public river access.

The permanent recreation and riparian management easement granted to the City of Steamboat Springs lies between the Core Trail and the Yampa River on the Iron Horse property guaranteeing public access to approximately 440 feet of river frontage. Landscaping improvements will focus on the installation of a safety railing adjacent to a culvert, construction of a staircase from the property to the Core Trail and landscaping work including park benches, picnic tables and bike racks; with the remaining balance applied toward landscaping enhancements to the property entrance along US Highway 40. The public river access and related improvements will be completed by the City over a period of two years.

The agreement was finalized this week by a team that included City Attorney Dan Foote along with City Council members Tony Connell and Robin Crossan in addition to Suiter.
