Construction of the Yampa Street Improvements Project began May 23 and Oak Street work began September 6. Both projects will continue the week of September 12.

YAMPA STREET UPDATE:

CLOSURE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 12: Continuing on Monday, September 12, Yampa Street will be closed to vehicular traffic between 7th and 9th Streets, including the 8th Street intersection. The 7th and 9th Street intersections will remain open. The north side pedestrian walkway will be reopened between the 8th Street intersection and fire station. The sidewalk on the south side of Yampa Street between Backdoor Sports & Wheels Bike Shop and the Aurum restaurant will be closed to allow crews to install utilities across the sidewalk. Pedestrians will be rerouted around the sidewalk closure throughout the week.

Maintaining access to all businesses is a priority. Signage and wayfinding will continue to be installed during the required closures. For everyone’s safety, we ask visitors, employees and residents to respect all closures and use the designated detours and parking areas. Shoppers and visitors are reminded that additional nearby parking is available at the 10th and Yampa Street parking lot, Rodeo Grounds parking lot and Howelsen Hill parking lots, with easy access to Yampa Street over the 9th or 5th Street bridges.

Construction work hours are from 7am to 7pm Monday through Thursday and 7am – 5pm on Fridays. Construction work on Saturdays will resume beginning on September 10 and workers will be authorized to work from 8am to 4pm those days.

PROGRESS UPDATE: During the week of September 5, Duckels Construction worked to install additional concrete sidewalk and curb and gutter as well as light pole foundations near the 8th Street intersection. Sidewalk pavers and tree grates were also installed adjacent to the fire station parking lot.

PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETINGS: Bi-weekly public information meetings are scheduled for
9 a.m. on Fridays. The next meeting is scheduled for September 23 at Aurum Food & Wine, 811 Yampa St.

OAK STREET UPDATE:

WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 12: Work will continue on the north side of the 3rd to 5th block of Oak Street. A shoulder closure on the 3rd to 4th block of Oak Street will include the bike lane parking lane, and existing sidewalk links. Intermittent shoulder closures will also occur on the 4th to 5th block. Access to all businesses will remain open from the alley.

Signage and wayfinding will continue to be installed during the required closures. For everyone’s safety, we ask visitors, employees and residents to respect all closures and use the designated detours and parking areas. The project team will continue to communicate with individual owners and tenants on Oak Street as work progresses.

PROGRESS UPDATE: Work began on September 6 on the north side of the 3rd to 4th block of Oak Street in preparation for sidewalks including excavation, clearing vegetation, and tree removal.

A construction hotline will be updated frequently; the number to call is 970-871-7052. Information on the overall project is available on the city’s website at: www.diggindowntown.com.
