[ARCHIVED] Yampa Street Construction Update - Week of August 22

YampaStreetConstructionMap.jpg

Construction of the Yampa Street Improvements Project began May 23 and will continue the week of August 22. This phase of the project will be entering its fourteenth week of construction and work will be substantially completed by no later than November 24, 2016.

CLOSURE WEEK OF AUGUST 22: Continuing on Monday, August 22, Yampa Street will be closed to vehicular traffic between 9th and 7th Streets, including the 8th Street intersection. The 7th Street intersection will remain open. As construction of streetscape elements becomes an element of the project, the north side sidewalk on this block of Yampa Street will be closed in front of the Police Station parking lot and the Residences of Old Town Condos. Due to sidewalk reconstruction, pedestrian access to Yampa Street from 8th Street will be limited. Pedestrians will be safely rerouted to the south side of the street and are encouraged to use 9th Street and 7th Street to access businesses on the south side of Yampa Street. Work will include storm sewer infrastructure, light pole foundations, parking lot paving, street tree preparation, and sidewalk construction.

Maintaining access to all businesses is a priority. Signage and wayfinding will continue to be installed during the required closures. For everyone’s safety, we ask visitors, employees and residents to respect all closures and use the designated detours and parking areas.

Shoppers and visitors are reminded that additional nearby parking is available at the 10th and Yampa Street parking lot, Rodeo Grounds parking lot and Howelsen Hill parking lots, with easy access to Yampa Street over the 9th or 5th Street bridges.

Construction work hours are from 7am to 7pm Monday through Thursday and 7am – 5pm on Fridays.

YAMPA STREET PROGRESS UPDATE: During the week of August 15th, Duckels Construction was able to install utility conduit for the undergrounding of overhead electric lines and install storm sewer drainage inlets and pipe from 9th to 8th Street. Completed work during the week also includes preparation for sidewalk and parking lot paving in front of the Police Station parking lot.

An unrelated construction project by Fox Construction is nearing completion on private property between 9th and 10th Street.
PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETINGS: Bi-weekly public information meetings are scheduled for
9 a.m. on Fridays. The next meeting is scheduled for August 26 at Aurum Food & Wine, 811 Yampa St.

A construction hotline will be updated frequently; the number to call is 970-871-7052. Information on the overall project is available on the city’s website at: www.diggindowntown.com.
