[ARCHIVED] Revised-December 2014 Final Sales Tax Report

The City of Steamboat has published the final December 2014 Sales, Use, and Accommodation Tax Report. (See the Full Report.)

The City of Steamboat has published the final December 2014 Sales, Use, and Accommodation Tax Report. City of Steamboat Springs’ December sales taxes are 8.48% more than the December 2013 collections, a difference of $212,228. December 2014 collections of $2,716,175 reflect the highest December collections in the past decade.

Notable categorical increases were 16.17% in lodging and amenities, 11.80% in restaurants, 11.75% in sporting goods and 10.31% in liquor stores. Collections by area showed increases of 17.21% for the Mountain area, 10.97% for the West Steamboat area, and 8.22% for the Downtown area over December 2013.

Full year 2014 sales tax collection is 8.84% more than full year 2013. Collections for 2014 were $20,567,754 against a budget of $18,750,000 or 9.69% above budget.

Accommodation Tax, with the passing of referendum 2A, is now primarily dedicated to local trail projects and Yampa Street improvements. Additionally, a small amount is dedicated towards the marketing of these projects and capital improvements at Haymaker. December collections saw an increase of 16.82%, or $19,846, more than December 2013. Year to date accommodation tax is 15.21% more than year to date last year.

The Local Marketing District Air Service Sales Tax, with a rate of .25%, saw an increase of 8.57% over December 2013. This tax began January 1, 2012 and is held separately from the City of Steamboat Springs sales tax. Year to date, the Air Service Sales Tax is 8.92% more than year to date through the same period last year.

Building Use Tax is used to fund capital projects for the City of Steamboat Springs. This tax fluctuates depending on building permits issued, use tax audits completed, and the size and number of developments in the City. December 2014 showed an increase of $6,360 from December 2013. Full year 2014 collections are 88% over 2013 collections.
