The City of Steamboat Springs has published the FINAL March 2023 Sales, Use, Accommodation, Short-Term Rental (STR), and Mountain Communities Tax Report (See the Report)
The March 2023 sales taxes for the City of Steamboat Springs are 6.54% higher compared to the March 2022 collections or an increase of $313,398. Year-to-date sales tax collection is 9.1% more than year-to-date through the same period last year. For the past 5 years, March collections represent about 10% of annual collections.
When comparing this March to the same month last year the notable increases in collections by category are in utilities at 20.8% and grocery stores and other food sellers at 12.70% over last March. Increases were seen in most geographical area categories.
Accommodation Tax is primarily dedicated to local trail projects. A small amount each year is dedicated towards the marketing of these projects and capital improvements at Haymaker. March collections are 4.91% higher compared to the same period last year. Year-to-date accommodation tax collection is 5.75% more than in the same period last year.
Short-Term Rental Tax (STR tax) is dedicated for use to increase the stock of affordable and attainable housing by providing incentives and contributions to facilitate the development of affordable and attainable housing at locations including, but not limited to, Brown Ranch and to provide funding for infrastructure associated with affordable and attainable housing, including without limitation, energy, stormwater, water, wastewater, and multi-modal transportation. March STR tax collection is $1,812,000.
Building Use Tax is used to fund capital projects for the City of Steamboat Springs. This tax fluctuates depending on building permits issued, use tax reconciliations completed, and the size and number of developments in the City. March net use tax collections total $285,812.
