STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-August 4, 2022-The Steamboat Springs Police Department (SSPD) will be hosting a pinning ceremony on Monday, August 15, to officially honor four new recruits, Detective Silva’s promotion and the arrival of Commander Beckett to the department.
“This is an extremely meaningful event celebrating major milestones for these six individuals,” commented Chief Sherry Burlingame. “Steamboat Springs is fortunate to have these dedicated officers and I can’t wait to see how they continue to develop and serve our community in their new roles.”
The cadet group will officially be pinned with the Steamboat Springs Police Department badge and Sam Silva and Mark Beckett will receive their new Sergeant and Commander badges respectively with the department.
The pinning ceremony is a long-standing law enforcement tradition which awards the police badge on an individual either upon graduation or promotion. The celebratory event will take place starting at 3pm in City Council Chambers in Centennial Hall at 124 10th Street.
Brenden Andrews, Elle Crouch, Gene Lee, and Lonny Shaw are graduating from the Colorado Law Enforcement Training Academy through the Colorado Mountain College in Breckenridge. The Colorado POST accredited three-month program provides the highest quality training for those who want to be of service to their communities as police officers.
Detective Sam Silva was promoted to Sergeant in mid-July after serving six years in investigations. He will now be assigned to patrol and the night shift. According to Chief Burlingame, “Sam is very deserving of this next step. He has proven experience and leadership that make him an asset to our team!”
Commander Beckett recently assumed the leadership role of Police Operations Commander. He is a 21-year law enforcement veteran with the Mesa Police Department in Arizona before moving to join the SSPD.
The Steamboat Springs Police Department is comprised of more than twenty-nine sworn police officers and nearly fifteen support personnel, who provide around the clock public safety services to the City of Steamboat Springs. Last year, the department responded to more than 13,000 calls for service across patrol services, investigations, evidence, animal control, community service and records.
