Final Phase of Sewer Interceptor Project Starts July 25

MWW Phase III Newsflash

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-July 20, 2022-Mt. Werner Water & Sanitation District (MWWSD) Sewer Interceptor Project will start work up again on Monday, July 25, 2022, on the final phase of its multi-year Sewer Interceptor Improvement Project.

“We’re in the final stretch of this multi-year improvement project that will benefit the community for the foreseeable future,” said Mt. Werner Water & Sanitation District General Manager Frank Alfone. “We’ appreciate everyone’s patience as construction crews work to install this comprehensive and complex system.”

Phase III of the Sewer Interceptor Project completes the installation of new pipe through the project zone from Mount Werner Road through Ski Town Park and is a continuation of the previous two phases constructed over the past two years.

Phase III will see construction crews continue upsizing the district’s sewer main. This segment starts west of the City Market gas station between the US40 off ramp and travels south between the ramp and businesses in Wildhorse Market Place through the far south Villages parking lot, across Pine Grove Rd into Ski Town Park and ending at the far northeast corner of the Ski Town Park.

Native Excavating is the general contractor and plans to start mobilizing equipment and materials on Monday, July 25. The project is anticipated to be complete at the end of October with some landscaping finished the following spring, in 2023.

The pedestrian path parallel to US 40 will be closed for the duration of the project and trail users will be redirected via detour routes around the impacted area. Traffic on Pine Grove Rd at the Steamboat Tennis & Pickleball Center will be impacted but that won’t occur until late September/early October. No work will be done in Ski Town Park until after October 1. Through traffic on US 40 will not be impacted by the project.

The design parameters for the project were based on the results of the MWWSD Sanitary Sewer Trunk Replacement Master Plan performed by Civil Design Consultants. Engineering and Design Plans were prepared by Landmark Consultants, Inc. Phase III of the project is funded in part with a Colorado Water Resources and Power Development Authority Loan (4.5M).
