Spring Plant NewsFlash

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-May 25, 2022-Already have a green thumb or need help getting your hands dirty? The Yampa River Botanic Park’s (YRBP) Spring Plant Benefit is cultivating the right plants for the Yampa Valley’s climate and altitude and the place to be June 3 and 4 for budding to expert gardeners.

The Spring Plant Benefit features perennials for the intermountain west including pollinator-friendly plants, natives, specialty alpines, and other favorites. Park staff and Routt County Master Gardeners will be on-hand to answer questions and to help you make the best selections for your garden. Most of the selections can also been seen in the gardens of the Botanic Park. (No annuals or vegetables will be available)

What can you expect to find at the event? Plants to get excited about!  Pussytoes, potted Peonies, Primulas, Himalayan Edelweiss, Trumpet Gentian and Shooting Stars to name just a few.  Plants WILL sell out and a full list of available plants is online

The Yampa Valley Sustainability Council will be available for questions and information regarding how to incorporate climate-appropriate planting into your garden and landscape to lessen water demands at your home.

In addition, YRBP welcomes trough gardener and artist Domenique Turnbull, who has designed alpine troughs for the Denver Botanic Gardens and Betty Ford Alpine Gardens. He will demonstrate how to plant up his supertufa troughs; and, of course, will have troughs available for purchase. Join the fun with Domenique Friday at 3 pm and Saturday at 11 am.

Located on The Green inside the park, the Spring Benefit is open for members only on Friday, June 3 from 10 am-2 pm, and then, from 2-4pm for members and the public. On Saturday, June 4, the event runs from 11 am-2 pm for all. The Spring Benefit will take place - rain or shine.

Bring a wagon and your recycled cardboard boxes to transport your purchases from The Green to the parking lot.  Note that credit/debit cards or checks will be the only accepted form of payment. No cash transactions. Join or renew your membership now and take advantage of early shopping as plants will be limited.
