[ARCHIVED] Temporary COVID Business Modification of Premise Expire

Temporary Mitigation Expire NewsFlash

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-May 4, 2022-After nearly two years of battling the COVID-19 pandemic, all the special efforts around temporary emergency modifications of premise for outdoor seating and special structures that the city enacted to help local restaurants during this unprecedented time have expired.

“The city responded to the operational needs of local businesses during the pandemic by adjusting guidelines to help accommodate safety protocols during a critical circumstance,” commented Planning & Community Development Director Rebecca Bessey. “With much of the mitigation efforts running their course, the temporary covid criteria for adjustments to business premises has also come to a conclusion.”

Due to the impact of COVID-19 on local businesses, the city permitted emergency modifications to premises allowing temporary permits for outdoor seating and retail display areas based on city approvals. Efforts included expanded outdoor seating into parking spaces and special structures as ways to battle the spread of the coronavirus while allowing the business to remain operational.

Monthly sales tax collections for the city have come in double digit percentages above previous same time periods since March 2021 and continue to show robust activity.

Currently, outdoor display and seating areas may require approval by the city. Seating and display located within the public right-of-way (sidewalk) may be permitted with approval of a Type B Revocable License. Contact Planning & Community Development to determine what approvals and standard apply.
