[ARCHIVED] Steamboat-Ski Town, USA® Celebrates Olympian Heritage

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO- January 24, 2022-Steamboat Springs has long been known for producing the most winter Olympians of any town in the US, 96 and counting, so it is only fitting that the entire community is invited to celebrate athletes that have competed in the Winter Games, athletes that will compete in this year’s Winter Games and the friends and family who supported them along the way. 

The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, City of Steamboat Springs, Steamboat Springs Chamber and Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation have teamed up to present the Olympian Community Celebration on Saturday, February 5 from 5-6pm at Howelsen Hill.

The event will focus on the special community in Steamboat Springs that supports athletes of all ages and abilities to achieve their highest goals. Olympians competing in Beijing this year will not be in attendance as they quarantine and prepare for their competitions. They will be present via video interviews sharing their insights on what it means to be a Steamboat Olympians. Family members of competition athletes will also share their stories about raising Olympians in Ski Town, U.S.A.®  

The celebration will include videos of Steamboat’s impressive list of Olympians, a flag parade of nations, lighting of the Olympian Cauldron, plus cupcakes and a dance party. The entire community is invited to join the celebration and cheer on our deep Olympic roots. 

Limited parking will be available at Howelsen Hill, it is recommended that attendees utilize the free SST bus (mask required to ride), carpool and utilize offsite parking with walking and shuttle access.
