STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-October 22, 2021-Various projects across the city are moving through different phases as work focuses on improvements and infrastructure enhancements. The following provides a brief update on city and non-city projects. All projects are weather dependent.
Mt. Werner/Steamboat Blvd Roundabout - City of Steamboat Springs
The Steamboat Blvd/Mt. Werner Rd Roundabout Project is zeroing in on completion with paving of the southside lanes this weekend and pouring sidewalks into next week. Old Mt. Werner Road will see a closure for a short duration over the weekend during paving operations.
Striping of the roadway and area is schedule for next week and the project is anticipating substantial completion and open roadway by November 4. A planned ribbon cutting ceremony date is currently being contemplated for the week of November 8. Additional landscaping will continue outside the roadway over the coming weeks.
The project team hosted its 14 and last virtual public information meeting today; however, project information and photos can still be found at engagesteamboat.net/roundabout.
Parks & Recreation Projects - City of Steamboat Springs
The Yampa River Restoration Project has crews from Diggin’ It! working along the riverbank and in the river. A section of the Core Trail will be closed at times as crews move equipment and materials across the trail. The restoration project, located behind the Flour Mill, will improve river access, aquatic habitat, bank stabilization and recreational opportunities. The restoration project is anticipated to last approximately four weeks and will include detours on the Yampa River Core Trail.
The Howelsen Ice Complex Expansion has seen the contractor start framing for roof installation. This project will run for several months, anticipated to be complete in March 2022, but there will be limited public impact or access issues with the project.
The Tube Howelsen lift continues to be stuck in port in Texas and the city has decided to postpone installation until next year and operations until the 2022/23 season.
Howelsen Hill Chairlift: Crews continue to work toward completion and tramway board approval around November 12. A helicopter installed the lift towers and cross arms earlier this month. The haul rope is being stung and splicing is currently anticipated sometime next week.

Rodeo Grounds Paving Project - City of Steamboat Springs
Contractor, RCD, is finalizing work, which will be substantially complete by end of this weekend. Paving of the lot has been complete and striping should be painted by the end of the weekend. Interpretive signs will be installed at later date. While the EV charging stations are still being completed, the newly redesigned and paved area will host the EV Ride & Drive event tomorrow.
US40 Sidewalk Project - City of Steamboat Springs
Work on south side of US40 is roughly 90% complete with asphalt driveway paving and patching on Conestoga finished. Upcoming work focuses on concrete sidewalk installation on north side of US40 (weather dependent), which will require a shoulder and bike lane closure in the westbound direction. In addition, motorists should anticipate a one-lane closure in the eastbound (town bound) direction as sidewalks are finalized. Crews are targeting November 8 for substantial completion.
Additional City Projects - City of Steamboat Springs
Pine Grove Road Pavement Analysis – During the week of Nov 15, NWCC will be conducting geotechnical boring on Pine Grove Road, which will impact traffic periodically. Traffic control including flagging with one lane closures will be encountered.
Core Trail West Extension – Underground utility exploration work is scheduled for the week of Oct 25th and is the final element of this project for this year. Shoulder and turn lane closures of US40 are expected in the vicinity of Sleepy Bear Mobile Home Park and the KOA Campground.
