STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-May 10, 2021-With the community at Low Risk, Routt County’s 5 Star State Certification Program has closed having served its intended purpose during more restrictive COVID-19 levels.
“The 5 Star Program enabled participating businesses to operate at one level less restrictive than our county was operating. So many businesses went above and beyond this year and this was a path to reward those additional efforts,” commented Steamboat Springs Chamber CEO Kara Stoller.
A local administrative committee was responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing Routt County’s 5 Star program. The volunteer initiative encouraged businesses to implement safety measures beyond what was required by public health orders and guidelines. In doing so, businesses accelerated their reopening.
"I applaud the collaboration of our business community with our local government to create a program that allowed businesses to open while keeping customers safe,” said Routt County Environmental Health Director Scott Cowman. “Thank you to all who have participated. I am grateful we have been able to lift almost every restriction and we are on the road to recovery."
Under the 5 Star program, nearly three dozen local businesses attained 5 Star certification:

“All agreed, we have achieved our goal and the program is no longer required at this time,” continued 5 Star committee member and City of Steamboat Springs Deputy City Manager Tom Leeson. “I want to thank all the businesses which participated and let them know their efforts did not go unnoticed by the community.”
While all indications are trending in the right direction, the 5 Star program could be reinstated with approval by the Routt County Board of Health should this program be required again in the future.
