STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-April 22, 2021-Police Commander Annette Dopplick is leaving the Steamboat Springs Police Department (SSPD), having recently submitted her resignation.
“I want to thank Commander Dopplick for her service and dedication to the community over the past five years,” said City Manager Gary Suiter. “On behalf of the city, we wish Annette the best and very much appreciate all she has accomplished for the community.”
With more than 15 years of experience in law enforcement, Dopplick was hired as police commander for the city following a nationwide search in 2016.
As Operations Commander, she was responsible for 29 employees across uniformed Police Officers, School Resource Officer, Animal Control and Community Service Officers. She served as Chair for the NW Regional POST Grant Board and shared leadership of the regional SWAT Team. She was an active collaborator on the Child Advocacy Center Steering Committee and passionate promoter of trauma informed victim-centric investigation.
Her leadership led to innovative changes in recruitment and hiring practices that improved SSPD’s ethnic and racial diversity and increased the percentage of female representation on patrol (from being the sole woman to 25% of patrol, more than twice the industry average of 11%), and ultimately improved SSPD’s relationship with the community through representative engagement. In addition, she worked with numerous local non-profits and community organizations to help the SSPD better serve the Yampa Valley.
During her tenure with the SSPD, she served as interim Chief of Police for the Town of Kremmling, while the community conducted a search for a new chief and reorganized the police department.
“It has been my privilege to serve the community of Steamboat Springs,” said Dopplick. “I am profoundly sad at the circumstances that have led to my resignation and I am hopeful that the city will act on their stated objective of Inclusion, Diversity and Equity.”
Prior to joining Steamboat Springs, she served in various leadership positions with the Vail Police Department for over a decade.
The city will be conducting a search to fill the position in the coming months.
