Routt County NewsFlash

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO – March 24, 2020 – Routt County Commissioners Tim Corrigan, Beth Melton and Doug Monger, acting as the Board of Health, issued Public Health Orders to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 and save lives in the community. The first Order prohibits new visitors in hotels, motels and short-term rentals and the second Order limits gatherings to no larger than five people at a time. Both Orders are in effect on March 24 and go through April 24, 2020 unless rescinded or extended.

The Orders in summary state:

  • All lodging including hotels, motels, short-term rentals, such as VRBO’s, Airbnb’s, and campgrounds may not accept any new reservations or visitors with limited exceptions. There shall be no new bookings or reservations for the time period in which this Order is in effect. Reservations beginning on or after 8:00 a.m. on March 27, 2020 shall be cancelled.
  • Congregating with more than five people is not allowed, unless they are part of the same household. When in groups, physical distancing of six feet shall be maintained.
  • Businesses and government buildings are subject to site-specific restrictions.
  • Law enforcement has the authority to enforce these Public Health Orders.
  • There are exceptions to these Orders that are explained below.

The Executive Orders go into effect at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 and will remain in effect until at least April 24 or until the Department of Public Health deems that the need for the Orders is eliminated.

“These Executive Orders are some of the most effective tools we have available to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus. We understand that this is a challenging time for everyone. We encourage all of our citizens and businesses to abide by these Orders for the good of our community. Let’s all do our part to stop the spread, keep a physical distance and save lives. Limiting visitors to our county and prohibiting large gatherings of people will stop the spread and save lives in our community,” said County Commissioner Chair Tim Corrigan.

These orders reinforce Governor Polis’ requirement to reduce the on-site workforce for non-essential businesses by a minimum of 50%.
