The City of Steamboat Springs has published the Final September 2019 Sales, Use, and Accommodation Tax Report. (See the Full Report.)
City of Steamboat Springs’ September 2019 sales tax collections are 7.62% more compared to the September 2018 collections or an increase of $154,307. For the past 5 years, September collections represent about 8% of annual collections. Year to date sales tax collection is 7.83% more than year to date through September 2018.
When comparing this September to the same month last year, the greatest categorical increases were in construction & home improvement at 19.71%, and marijuana at 16.28%. Notable increases in collections by area were 28.71% for the Regional area and 7.15% for West Steamboat.
Accommodation Tax is primarily dedicated to local trail projects since the Yampa Street improvements portion of referendum 2A was completed last year. A small amount each year is dedicated towards the marketing of these projects and capital improvements at Haymaker. September collections reflect an increase of 8.38% compared to the same period last year. Year to date accommodations tax is up 13.89% compared to the same period last year.
Building Use Tax is used to fund capital projects for the City of Steamboat Springs. This tax fluctuates depending on building permits issued, use tax audits completed, and the size and number of developments in the City. September net use tax collections total $217,634. Year to date net use tax collections total $2,098,173.
