[ARCHIVED] City Lifts Fire Restrictions

Fire Restrictions Lifted NewsFlash

The City of Steamboat Springs will lift all fire restrictions for the city, following the direction of Routt County, which eliminated restrictions earlier this afternoon. The community has been under fire restrictions since first enacted in late June.

“With the return of more traditional fall weather, conditions have changed enough for us to move away from fire restrictions at this time,” said Mel Stewart, Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue Chief.  “By no means should individuals let their guard down or be lulled into a false sense of security with the change. We urge everyone to continue being cautious and following safe fire practices.”

With recent moisture and forecasts for continued precipitation and snow at higher elevations, the city will move away from having any fire restrictions in place starting tomorrow. The city first implemented Stage 1 Fire Restrictions on June 29, 2019, before moving to the heightened level of Stage 2 on September 27, 2018. Currently, the fire rating for all of northwest Colorado, including Routt County, is MODERATE.

Regardless of restrictions, individuals who wish to have recreational fires at private residences must obtain a valid permit from Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue (SSFR). Contact SSFR to obtain a permit and scheduled an inspection.
