The City of Steamboat Springs utilizes the Sustainability Tools for Assessing & Rating Communities (STAR) System as the framework for sustainability. STAR was built by and for local governments. Local leaders use STAR to assess their sustainability, set targets for moving forward, and measure progress along the way. The intent of the rating system is to help communities identify, validate, and support implementation of best practices to improve sustainable community conditions.
The Technical Guide serves as a supplement to the STAR Community Rating System and companion to the STAR Online Reporting Tool. Communities engaged in formal data collection and reporting will find the rating system’s rationale and methodology, calculations, data sources, and data submittal requirements in the Technical Guide.
Sustainability is not an end goal but is a journey that the City of Steamboat Springs is taking to improve the social, environmental and economic conditions in our city and community. The City of Steamboat Springs' vision statement specifically includes sustainability and is "to preserve our past while assuring an economically, culturally and environmentally sustainable future.”
