Registered Sex Offenders
About the Registry
The Colorado Sex Offender Registry includes only those persons who have been required by law to register and who are in compliance with the sex offender registration laws. Persons should not rely solely on the sex offender registry as a safeguard against perpetrators of sexual assault in their communities. The crime for which a person is convicted may not accurately reflect the level of risk.
This site provides only information on registered sex offenders residing in areas under the Steamboat Springs Police Service’s jurisdiction. For information regarding registered sex offenders residing in the county limits, please contact the Routt County Sheriff’s Office.
16-22-110(6)(a)
The general assembly hereby recognizes the need to balance the expectations of sex offenders and the public’s need to adequately protect themselves and their children from these persons.
16-22-112(1)
The general assembly finds that sex offenders have a reduced expectation of privacy because of the public’s interest in public safety. The general assembly further finds that the public must have limited access to information concerning sex offenders to allow them to adequately protect themselves and their children from these persons. The general assembly declares, however, that, in making this information public, it is not the general assembly’s intent that the information be used to inflict retribution or additional punishment on any sex offender.
Juvenile Offenders
Juvenile sex offender information will only be posted if the juvenile has been adjudicated for two or more offenses involving unlawful sexual behavior or a crime of violence as defined in section 18-1.3-406, C.R.S., or was required to register pursuant to section 16-22-103 because he or she was adjudicated for an offense that would have been a felony if committed by an adult and has failed to register as required by section 16-2-108.
Agreement
I hereby agree, I will not use the sex offender registry information to inflict retribution or additional punishment upon any registrant named therein, and I will not sell or distribute such information.
