Fire Consumes Barn in Routt County – Likely Cause is Lightning

On Thursday, July 15 at approximately 1:18 a.m. Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue was dispatched to the 43000 block of County Road 46 on a report of a fully involved barn fire. When first responders arrived, they located a 20 foot by 36 foot shed that was well involved in fire. There were no injuries to anyone involved and no threats to any animals or livestock in the area. The damage to this shed was estimated at approximately $20,000.

Residents in the area reported heavy thunderstorm and lightning activity around the time of the fire. Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue personnel report that lightning is the likely cause of this fire.
