Sales & Use Tax information and forms can be found on the City's website under Departments/Financial Services/Sales Use Tax Simple physics. If we were to lift the wing at everyone's driveway, the snow would just be left in the streets and become a nuisance to parking and the driving lanes. The streets would get narrower as the winter progressed and no one would be able to travel a month into winter. The snow is pushed back as far as possible to keep the streets wide for all travel and limited day parking where possible. We understand this is an invonvenience to everyone, but our winter operation is one of the best in the state, plowing all of our streets within a 12 hour period and never having a snow day at school because of our snowplowing operation. The City ordinance states that there is No Parking on City Streets from November 1st, to April 1st, at night from 2:00am to 8:00am and other similar times. The reason is that the Street Department cannot plow the streets effectively if there are cars parked on the streets thoughout town. We plow with motor graders and if we had to go around cars all night, the operation would never finish. None of us can predict the weather, so when you go to bed at night, there could be a storm at 3:00am. We encourage all residents and tourists to park in their designated parking spots that the homeowner has provided for. You don't get to park in a "hanidcapped spot" if no one is using it at the time. The City Street Department plows all streets with motor graders when accumulation reaches 2 inches or more. Reason is that we can plow any type of snow storm, heavy, wet, large or small. All the snow slides off the wing at an angle and the snow gets pushed off to the side. All driveways end up with windrow and we are sorry for that inconvenience. But in order to run an efficient, fast snowplosing operation to take care of our 70 miles of streets, 34 parking lots and 6 miles of alleys, the department cannot take the time to remove the snow from personal driveways. If an ordinance amends the Steamboat Springs Revised Municipal Code, it can be found by searching the Municipal Code with a key word. Visit the Municipal Code site.
