Rusty Chandler/Dave Linner Memorial Scholarship![]() ![]() Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue members in memory of Rusty Chandler and Dave Linner, have created a scholarship fund to be awarded to local high school students. Rusty Chandler himself, was a 1982 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School. Rusty was a valued member of the Steamboat Springs Volunteer Fire Department for 10 years. On September 3, 1993 Rusty Chandler lost his battle to cancer at the young age of 30. Rusty loved this community and the country around it. He showed that love by his commitment to the Fire Department and helping those in need. The total amount donated has reached over $55000 since the scholarship's inception in 1994. Dave Linner was a beloved and valuable member of Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue and also program director for Yampa Valley Air Ambulance. In January 2005, Dave lost his life in an air ambulance plane accident doing what he loved most, helping others. Dave's passion for life, practical jokes and unique sense of humor will not be forgotten by those lucky enough to have known him.
