Animal Shelter

The Animal Shelter reunites owners with lost pets, finds unwanted animals loving homes, issues yearly dog and cat licensing, and also provides crematorium services. The Animal Shelter benefits from volunteers provided by the Northwest Animal Assistance League and Routt County Humane Society.

As a result of the City furloughs, there will be no Shelter staff on duty after 5:00p.m. Monday-Thursday. The Routt County Humane Society volunteers will still keep the Shelter open until 5:30p.m. in an effort to make the changes as convenient as possible.

Important: After 5:00pm, while volunteers are on duty, payments will be accepted by check only and any dog with a citation will not be released until the next day.

    Donations

We are always happy to receive donations in any form. This includes leashes, collars, toys, dog biscuits, treats, cat nip, as well as cat and dog food.  If you are interested in donating cat or dog food, please purchase one of the following brands: Iams, Science Diet, Purina Dog Chow, or Purina Cat/Kitten Chow. We have found that these products work well for the animals and allows for consistency in their diets.
