GO GREEN Department of Planning & Community Development The City of Steamboat Springs and Routt County have partnered together to create a Green Building Program with the help of a grant from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA). CIty and County Staff have used this grant as well as additinal funds from the City to hire a consulting team. We are pleased to announce that we hve selected Architectural Energy Corporation and What;s Working Inc. to assist us in developing this program. These companies have a tremendous amount of experience developing and implementing Green Building Programs here in Colorado and across the Country. Green Building Program Implemented! January 1st marked that start of the City of Steamboat Springs' and Routt County's newly adopted Green Building Pilot Program for residential construction (excluding condominiums and large multifamily). This is a voluntary program except for the requirement that a signed GBP checklist be attached to any building permit plans for single-family, duplex, or row townhome construction. There is no requirement for compliance with the GBP. However, owners and builders are encouraged to participate in the program so that they can benefit from the many advantages of building sustainably. Several benefits of building to the merits of the Green Building Program (GBP) are as follows: Energy Savings - A GBP home will be at least 20% more energy efficient than a home built to code.
