Race Description:

Stage 1 - Alpine Skiing (400 vertical feet)
Alpine skiers charge 400' up Howelsen Hill on foot, put on their choice of Alpine, Nordic skis or Snowboard and ski down 400 vertical feet to the transition area to begin the snowshoe course. This is an expert run - expect hard-packed conditions.

Stage 2 - Snowshoeing (approx. 3 miles)(Short Course: 1.5 miles)
Snowshoers travel along a groomed trail winding through trails on lower Howelsen Hill. Minimum allowable snowshoe size is 8" x 22".

Stage 3 - Cross Country Skiing (approx. 4 miles)(Short Course: 2.25 miles)
Nordic racers will traverse on an intermediate / expert course on groomed tracks. Skiers may choose either classic or skate-skiing style.

Stage 4 - Mountain Biking (12 miles)(Short Course: 7.4 miles)
Racers bike on a winding road which follows the scenic Yampa River for an out-and-back course. The road remains open to traffic, so caution is of utmost importance when competing in this portion of the race. Helmets are mandatory.

Stage 5 - Running (5 miles)(Short Course: 2 miles)
Racers run along a paved surface on the Yampa River Core Trail for an out-and-back course. Racers return to the finish line in the transition area surrounded by cheering spectators!

Team Categories: Male, Female, Youth, Coed, Dynamic Duo or Short Course

Individual Categories: Standard Course or Short Course

  • Men 19-29 Women 19-29
  • Men 30-39 Women 30-39
  • Men 40-49 Women 40-49
  • Men 50+ Women 50+
