Contracting and Purchasing

The Contracting and Purchasing Division of General Services provides professional and timely procurement of goods and services, and increases partnership opportunities for cooperative purchasing efforts. Purchasing is service oriented and our duty is to provide a centralized source for pricing, quotations, order placement, vendor contact, and general problem solving.

The City has an officially adopted Procurement Manual. Its goal is to provide a centralized source for procurement, Request for Proposals (RFP), and formal bid development, vendor contact, contracting, and general problem solving. We promote the use of Life Cycle Costing and long-term, on-going vendor relationship whenever feasible. We advocate open and fair competition with vendors, suppliers, and contractors which will provide the best goods and services for the City of Steamboat Springs and its citizens. We welcome city employee, vendor and public input as we refine our services.

The City does not have an automated vendor listing computer program. All purchases over $20,000 are advertised in the local newspaper, and bids/proposals solicited from other sources available to Purchasing and the using departments. We welcome new vendors and suppliers of goods and services.
