Feed aggregatorThe City of Steamboat Springs hosts Community Center Grand OpeningTrail ClosuresEach spring, as snow melts and the rivers run higher, various sections of the Core Trail are closed as water exceeds the river banks. As the flows increase and decrease there will be several closures and re routes on the trail system. To date, the following sections of trail are closed: · 13th Street Underpass · Trafalgar Drive to Fetcher Pond due to high water near the Botanic Park · Rail Road Underpass upstream of Fetcher Pond · Highway 40 Underpass at Walton Creek · These section and others may open/close as we near peak flows Parks & Rec Master Plan Kick- OffThe CIty has engaged the services of GreenPlay, LLC.a nationally renowned park & recreation consulting firm, to help conduct a community needs assessment as part of a Parks & Recreation Master Plan. The intent of this comprehensive plan is to identifity our community's park & recreation needs so we can proactively plan for the future. In order to identify these needs, we are asking for your participation with the Parks & Recreation Commission at this kick-off meeting. Focus group meetings are being held with stakeholders so keep your eyes open for future meetings. City Hosts 86th Annual Colorado Municipal League ConferenceThe City of Steamboat Springs is honored to host the 86th Annual Colorado Municipal League Conference. Each year the Colorado Municipal League (CML) holds its annual conference in communities around Colorado. This year it will be in Steamboat Springs June 17 through June 20, 2008. The Annual Conference will be attended by approximately 1,000 city and town officials and their guests from across the state. The conference will be held at the Steamboat Grand Resort and Sheraton Steamboat with activities taking place throughout the city. Wednesday, June 18, 2008 Steamboat Springs Community Center Refreshments will be served Please RSVP to 871-8219 City Kicks off Summer Tran-Spur-Tation program for EmployeesThe City of Steamboat Springs is set to kick off its 2008 Summer Tran-Spur-tation season on June 8th. Last year, City employees took part in June’s Bike to Work month. During June of 2007, 282 employees of the City used alternative modes of transportation to commute to work and run errands. Those same employees accounted for 2338 days of alternative transportation use throughout the entire summer. This widespread effort helped to reduce traffic, eliminate pollution, and contribute to a healthier lifestyle. Captain Joel Rae in top 4% of the Bolder Boulder 10K race this weekend!The 30th Memorial Day 10K Bolder Boulder road race took place on May 26, 2008 in Boulder, Colorado. Our own Captain Joel Rae finished in the top 4% out of 53,000 runners who participated. His net time was 44:54:64 - a 7:14 pace. Congratulations Joel! City Sales Tax Up 3.1% for March 2008March 2008 sales tax collections increased 3.1% from sales tax collections for the month of March 2008. In looking at sales by category for March 2008, miscellaneous retail is up 3.34%, lodging is up 5.76%, sporting goods is down 4.56%, utilities is up 3.63%, restaurants is up 1.86%, and liquor stores is up 5.35%. To see the March 2008 Sales, Use and Accommodation Tax Report providing more information on all categories and comparisons by area, as well as charts illustrating the information, click here Schedule of Service Interruptions - Whistler Water Main ReplacementThe Whistler Water Main Replacement Project is on schedule and nearing the end of the first of two phases. Mt. Werner Water's plan is to complete Phase I – Walton Creek Road to Athens Plaza - before beginning Phase II which will extend the new main from Athens Plaza to Stone Lane. On Tuesday May 20th, our contractor, Native Excavating, will begin preparations for connecting the new water main to the existing distribution system. Native will be installing three new in-line water valves to limit the extent of water service interruptions.
