December 2017 Preliminary Sales Tax Report

The City of Steamboat has published the preliminary December 2017 Sales, Use, and Accommodation Tax Report. (See the Full Report.)

The City of Steamboat has published the preliminary December 2017 Sales, Use, and Accommodation Tax Report. City of Steamboat Springs’ December sales taxes are 1.07% more compared to the December 2016 collections or an increase of $33,197. For the past 5 years, December collections represent about 13% of annual collections. Year to date sales tax collection is 3.56% more than year to date through December 2016.

When comparing this December to the prior December, the greatest categorical increases were in Marijuana at 15.84% and Liquor stores at 13.24% Notable increases in collections by area were 17.26% for the Regional area and 3.68% for the Downtown area.

Accommodation Tax, with the passing of referendum 2A, is now primarily dedicated to local trail projects and Yampa Street improvements. Additionally, a small amount is dedicated towards the marketing of these projects and capital improvements at Haymaker. December collections were relatively flat compared to December 2016.

Building Use Tax is used to fund capital projects for the City of Steamboat Springs. This tax fluctuates depending on building permits issued, use tax audits completed, and the size and number of developments in the City. December 2017 use tax collections are $159,764 more compared to December 2016. Year to date use tax collections are $1,007,493 more through the same period last year or up 71%.
