The City of Steamboat Springs has published the December 2019 Preliminary Sales, Use, and Accommodation Tax Report. (See the Full Report). City of Steamboat Springs’ December 2019 sales tax collections are 3.37% more compared to the December 2018 collections or an increase of $115,673. For the past 5 years, December collections represent about 13% of annual collections. Year to date sales tax collection is 7.50% more than year to date through December 2018.
When comparing this December to the same month last year, the greatest categorical increases were in construction & home improvement at 21.69%, and miscellaneous retail at 7.69%. Notable increases in collections by area were 11.60% for the regional area and 4.07% for downtown.
Accommodation Tax is primarily dedicated to local trail projects since the Yampa Street improvements portion of referendum 2A was completed last year. A small amount each year is dedicated towards the marketing of these projects and capital improvements at Haymaker. December collections reflected a modest increase of 0.69% compared to the same period last year. Year to date accommodations tax is up 12.52% compared to the same period last year.
Building Use Tax is used to fund capital projects for the City of Steamboat Springs. This tax fluctuates depending on building permits issued, use tax audits completed, and the size and number of developments in the City. December net use tax collections total $63,596. Year to date net use tax collections total $2,463,560 which is 35% higher compared to the same period last year.
